Yixiang Wang

International Artists Ambassador

An accomplished violinist with nearly two decades of dedication to music, Yixiang Wang brings a wealth of experience in both performance and education. From collaborations with esteemed musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma and Steven Mackey to performances at world-renowned festivals including Tanglewood, the Leipzig Shostakovich Festival, and Yellow Barn, her artistry spans solo, chamber, and orchestral music at the highest level. Currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory under the guidance of Donald Weilerstein, she merges a deep performance background with a strong commitment to mentoring and inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Her formal education includes a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory, where she also studied with Donald Weilerstein, and a Bachelor of Music from the Manhattan School of Music under Nicholas Mann, the founder of the Mendelssohn Quartet. These formative years have shaped her artistic identity, refining both her technical expertise and interpretative depth.

Recent performance engagements include collaborations with Natasha Brofsky from the Juilliard faculty in Chou Wen-Chung’s Stream, a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.6 alongside the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Samy Rachid, a duo recital featuring Kodály’s Duo for Violin and Cello with concert cellist Mon-Puo Lee, and a string quartet performance of Bacewicz’s Quartet for Four Violins alongside Donald Weilerstein at the Perlman Music Program. Her chamber projects have also included Ligeti’s Metamorphosis Nocturne, performed at Boston Symphony Hall with the Meraki String Quartet, which received outstanding critical acclaim, as well as Britten’s String Quartet No.2, showcased at Jordan Hall for the NEC Chamber Music Gala Concert. In 2024, she premiered Malcolm Payton’s String Quartet No.1 at Jordan Hall, a performance attended by the composer and his foundation.

Her festival and fellowship experience includes summers at Tanglewood, Yellow Barn, the Perlman Music Chamber Workshop, Kneisel Hall, and Music Academy of the West, working closely with ensembles such as the Takács Quartet through the MAW String Quartet Fellowship Program. As a two-time young artist and mentor at Kneisel Hall, she has also played an active role in chamber music education.

Throughout her career, she has had the privilege of performing alongside internationally acclaimed artists, including a collaborative chamber music performance with Yo-Yo Ma, chamber projects with violinist Qing Li, and work with composer Steven Mackey. These collaborations have helped shape her approach to ensemble playing, blending technical brilliance with a refined artistic voice.

With expertise in both classical and contemporary repertoire, she is an accomplished violinist known for her advanced technique and musical versatility. As a dedicated chamber musician, she has led and collaborated within various ensembles, from the Meraki String Quartet to the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra and other professional groups. As a committed educator, she is a fellow of the Teaching Artist Concentration at NEC, focusing on mentoring and nurturing young musicians.

Her artistry has been recognized through prestigious fellowships and scholarships, including a violin audition win at Tanglewood 2024, as well as distinctions at Yellow Barn, the Perlman Music Program, Kneisel Hall, Bowdoin Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and NYSOS. Her unwavering passion for the violin and commitment to chamber music continue to shape her success and influence in the international music community.
